Lunar News: Full Moon in Scorpio
Astrological vibe check: taken to the edge, the fledgling jumps to his death but flies instead
Full Moon at 4° Scorpio on April 23rd at 5:48 PM MST.
Sabian Symbol: A massive, rocky shore resists the pounding of the sea
The eclipse cycle was a doozy and in some ways this Full Moon will feel like an aftershock. The Moon is in exile in the sign of Scorpio with wounds feeling exposed and raw. And Scorpio is all about that exposure, it invites us to turn around, look beneath and behind all the things we use to protect us from the pain of vulnerability and discoverability.
Two weeks ago I compared the Solar Eclipse to a betrayal of the Sun by the Moon because the Moon briefly extinguished the Sun’s light. In the days since, she’s been moving away from him in quiet avoidance, but now is the time for resolution, although it might be somewhat tense. The Taurus/Scorpio axis highlights the push and pull between enjoyment and suffering. The Moon feels remorseful for the light she blotted out, but it had to be done and the Sun is leaning toward forgiveness. This Full Moon we are invited to overcome our fears, challenge our conditioned attitudes toward love and connection, and break apart the calcified protection we’ve built up over our hearts. Full Moons in general are a Great Releasing, but we can let a lot go with this one as long as we are willing to take the risk of losing old ways to make room for new. Surrendering is going to feel more difficult and more terrifying than usual because both Taurus and Scorpio are Fixed signs, so they evoke a feeling of stubbornness in us. This Full Moon is a trust exercise.
Things to consider more specifically about the Scorpio Full Moon are where you were six months ago and what motions you put into place at that time. What are some commitments you made? Have you followed through on them? What about any intentions set or wishes made? Think about how you were feeling with regard to openness, trust, and security. Were you ready to take risks or turn corners you couldn’t yet see around? Or did you remain safe and sheltered? This lunar cycle is one to evaluate how you might have grown your capacity for giving up control and facing the fears that come with being emotionally exposed.
April is the most intense month of the year and this is just the beginning of the final stretch, but to recap: we had Mercury station retrograde on April 1st, the Solar Eclipse conjunct Chiron on April 8th, Mars conjunct Saturn on April 10th, Mercury Cazimi on April 12th, Jupiter conjunct Uranus on April 20th, and Venus conjunct Chiron on April 21st. After the Full Moon, Mercury will station direct on April 25th and Mars will be conjunct Neptune on April 28th. We have been tasked with leaning into the tides of fate and growing in our ways of adapting to the changes and obstacles set before us on our path. These deeply fated events haven’t all been negative, or difficult, though. In fact, so much transformation will inevitably lead to some massively positive results. The Scorpio Full Moon is giving us the chance to examine this; and if we feel burned by any of the craziness from this month, then this is the invitation to rise from the ashes.
Let go of the irrevocable losses and trust that the universe will fill the void swiftly. Be grateful for the blessings that have appeared and don’t take them for granted, lest you sabotage the good that is flooding in. And finally, this is the week to emotionally process and integrate all that we’ve been through these last few weeks.
