Full Moon at 9° Aquarius, August 1, 12:32 PM MST.
Today’s Super Moon in Aquarius has the feeling of throwing a house party when your parents are out of town and left you all alone. Instead of finding herself crying at her own party, though, the Moon is likely going to make other people suffer this time around. This is the first lunation in Aquarius without Saturn co-present in 3 years and the Moon is enjoying a sense of freedom and ease of motion as the only guest in his home. With Saturn, Aquarius’ ruler, retrograding through the choppy waters of Pisces, however, the Moon is sending us messages through our dreams. These encrypted, mysterious, and magical messages are further amplified by Mercury, who is getting cozy for an extended stay in his home sign of Virgo and opposing Saturn. The hermetic messenger is currently winning in a debate against Saturn on the topic of whether it’s worth it pay close attention to the details of a problem, or gloss over the minutiae in order to reach a resolution. This is influencing the tension and conflict between the Sun, domiciled in Leo, and the Aquarius Moon. When dealing with interpersonal conflict in our lives, we must strike a balance between knowing how much of the problem is caused within ourselves and how much the external world is inflaming the situation. The detached and aloof Moon doesn’t feel like dealing with all the emotional turmoil, but the Sun, sitting atop his Leonic throne, wants to draw attention to the self, the ego, and all the feelings wrapped up in the individual. The only way to reach resolution with this Full Moon is to practice groundedness; understand that you cannot look for love externally, but understand that you are the love, and so is everyone else around you.
As we deal with the culmination of a conflict between the individual desires and the collective responsibilities, Jupiter and Mars bring in great triumph and celebration. As Jupiter luxuriates in his earthen temple, he meets a perfectionist Mars who has just finished stoking the flames of another conflict with Saturn. Mars is knit-picky and critical and is on a hot search to get to the bottom of things, and Jupiter decides to bless him with a major discovery related to wealth and value. We can expect a ‘Eureka!’ moment this week as these two planets form a trine to one another. Our aggressive thoroughness and perfectionism will be rewarded with major breakthroughs.
The story of the Summer continues to be Venus retrograding through Leo, bringing up themes around damaged relationships to the self and massive disruptions or surprises in love and relationships. The myth most closely related to Venus retrograde is the Sumerian story of the descent of Inanna to the underworld to retrieve a dead lover, only to be crucified by her sister, Ereshkigal, ruler of hell, for being proud and insolent. We are still in the early stages of this descension story with Venus. It is as though we are preparing for this ritual sacrifice alongside her. Personal examination of consciousness is in order. What are we being asked to part with? What are we shedding? What are the things we thought we valued, but are of no more use to us?
Full Moons are typically chaotic times losing sleep and letting loose, but this lunation is particularly cold, even with the Sun in fiery Leo. We might have trouble letting down our guards and getting past others’ walls. Take things slow and remember the journey is weathered better in the company of another.
