Full Moon at 23° Gemini on December 15th at 2 AM MST
Sabian Symbol: Carefree children skating on ice
The final Full Moon of the year is a helpful preview of some of the chaos we are in store for during 2025. This is because the Full Moon is happening on the mutable axis of Gemini and Sagittarius, with Neptune forming a Tsquare in the mutable water sign of Pisces. In 2025 the mutable cross of the zodiac—that is, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces—is getting a massive surge of activity when: the solar and lunar eclipses occur in Pisces and Virgo; Jupiter and Saturn form a square in Gemini and Pisces; Venus and Mercury are both retrograde through the last decan of Pisces next Spring; one of the most momentous conjunctions of the year (Venus, the North Node, and Neptune) happens in Pisces; Uranus ingresses into Gemini. Changes are coming on quickly and adaptability is key. There will be no room for inertia in life as we collectively move toward a transformation that will eventually leave our society unrecognizable.
This weekend, however, the Moon is calling our attention to the tension between the desire to Know everything and the painstaking work it takes to gather all of the details and information in order to reach that knowledge (although, of course, trying know everything is a fool’s errand). This week leading up to the Gemini Full Moon has taught us this lesson rather obviously and perhaps even painfully as news items have been dropping like bombs several times a day. December has been jam packed with headlines that are delivering factual information as well as misinformation so fast that it’s hard to keep a level head about anything coming out of the media. What has been most interesting to observe here is the way information flow and memetic cycles are converging in a way that makes most media simultaneously undigestible and irresistible. The news used to function as a broadcast of information where journalists would go looking for details of a story, fact-check, and then put together a report to broadcast to the general public. From there, citizens and media consumers would take those stories and draw their own conclusions about the world and the sequence of events that were all contributing toward the historical narrative of life. Occasionally a news story would gain traction and the momentum it generated would make memetic waves that would capture the imagination of a city, state, nation, or civilization and it those waves would congeal into a zeitgeist. News and information would be delivered to us over a chronological timeline with space to process what was happening. Many teachers would carve out time in their classroom to discuss Current Events to teach this timeline of life that makes up History. That timeline has now been flattened and we live in a compacted INSTANT. What used to be known as “Current Events” is now just a constant stream of Schrödinger’s Information that both is and isn’t true at the time the story breaks. This moment in time is a crucial Information Flow Reversal that, admittedly, has been happening for at least the better part of a decade, but is now blatantly obvious to anyone with reading comprehension and access to the internet. The current news protocol is to release information and then react accordingly with corrections if necessary (they are almost always necessary). This creates a sense of ambient distrust at best, and full on paranoia at worst amongst media consumers.
I don’t expect Sunday’s Full Moon to bring us any major discoveries or revelations of truth or farce, but rather it is an initiation point that is taking us into a new framework. We are going to have to exercise discernment and have strong conviction in that in order to move forward through this time of accelerated chaos. On this day Mercury is also stationing direct at 6° Sagittarius which means confusion will be heightened as our planet of communications is stabilizing to press on with his journey. As he stations Mercury is also making a trine to Mars Rx in Leo. Under normal conditions, this is a fine transit that boosts our self confidence and assists us in speaking our mind even in the face of adversity or disagreement. These are not normal conditions, though, and my recommendation for this trine is to avoid asserting yourself and your point of view in any verbal quarrels until you have collected evidence and information and can make a strong case in favor of your position. It’s not a good day to make declarations, give a false pretense of authority or knowledge, or, really, to speak at all. It might not feel the most intuitive to stay quiet during the frenzy of a Full Moon, but contemplation is the best strategy.
Overall, now is a good time to start re-evaluating our relationship to Information—how we get it, how we process it, and how we understand it to influence our decisions and actions. The world faces turbulent change in the year ahead and now is the perfect time to prepare.
Lunar Cycle Transits
December 18: Sun in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces
Today is not a great day for getting anything accomplished as everyone is going to feel the impulse to escape into a world of daydreams. And, honestly, the escapist route is the better one to take today because the “real” world is just full of deception. Try not to be paranoid about others lying to you, but do be wary of all the ways in which you deceive yourself. Do not abandon the truth for the sake of idealism. Keep your expectations in check and take the rose-colored glasses off.
December 21: Sun ingresses into Capricorn YULE SOLSTICE
The light of the Sun reverses its direction and makes its return to the northern hemisphere. We are finally coming back to an era of light and growth and abundance. Rejoice. The Winter Solstice marks the beginning of Capricorn season, which is a time to get to work laying the foundation for a strong year. The ground is still frozen, so we cannot plant yet, although we do what we must to organize our proverbial fields to give us the sustenance we’ll need.
Across many cultures, this is typically a time when farmers would complete their “weather lore” for the year ahead. This is a practice whereby you look at the weather of the 12 days following the winter solstice and you apply those conditions to the next 12 months of the year to forecast how to plant, when to harvest, etc. For example, if the weather is extra cold and gloomy on the 8th day after the Solstice, you can expect a colder than usual month of August and you’ll plan for an early freeze and harvest your crops early. While “weather lore” explicitly has been largely abandoned for things like meteorology, this is still a great meditative practice to bring into your spiritual routine.
I began to incorporate a form of spiritual weather lore in 2022 when I took a walk each day after the Winter Solstice with the explicit intention of paying attention to any symbols or omens that would make themselves known to me on those walks. I would write these down and return to this imagery each month of the following year and reflect on how the magic of the world speaks to me when I am open and listening. I recommend this as an undertaking because if nothing else, it will serve as your much needed re-enchantment with the world.
December 23: Sun in Capricorn squaring the Lunar Nodes
When this special kind of square occurs it’s a day when we feel like our lives our given over to the Fates. Depending on your ego and karmic debt, it can feel liberating or restrictive. We are often confronted with a crossroads and decisions to make. If we feel out of control with our lives, then we’ll likely have a difficult time with this. It is an important time to settle into a state of calm faith in our own free will and agency. Radical self acceptance and trust is needed.
December 24: Saturn in Pisces square Jupiter Rx in Gemini
This transit is a bummer and poorly timed. It feels like we are being tested with a strong restriction on our freedom. If there is anything in our lives that is not built to last (such as beliefs, life plans, careers) it will tend to fall apart as a result of our negligence. While it’s a pain to go through this, you can think of this as an invitation to restore the value to your life by creating things with longevity in mind. Consider what was going on in your life around August 17, 2024—themes of this time may be repeating now. This is just another chance to work out whatever was irritating you then.
December 26: Mercury in Sagittarius opposing Jupiter Rx in Gemini (forming Tsquare with Saturn in Pisces)
This is the third and final time this opposition will occur now that Mercury is finally moving on from this position in Sagittarius. Deals that we have been negotiating over the last several weeks are finally closing and we are feeling optimistic. The square from Saturn is harsh, but sometimes it is necessary to make sacrifices in order to bring about the net positive change we are seeking. Jupiter doesn’t generally like to feel loss, but a forward moving Mercury is going to feel lighter without the heaviness of whatever was weighing us down.
December 27: Venus in Aquarius square Uranus Rx in Taurus
Unfortunately, this transit could derail our relationships with petty fights breaking out. Usually, when relationship conflicts occur under a Venus-Uranus aspect, it’s because we are actually experiencing stagnancy and are craving something exciting to happen. Most of the time, we don’t know how to introduce novelty into our relationships because we feel shy, or we are too inert. This can be frustrating and the frustration gets sublimated and comes out in bursts of anger or aggression. Don’t take fights seriously or personally, but rather take the opportunity to break the ice and find connection.
