Full Moon at 22° Scorpio at 10:55 AM MDT on May 12th
Sabian Symbol: A rabbit metamorphosed into a fairy (nature spirit)
Did you know… every song in the Lunar News playlist is a horoscope for each sign for this lunar cycle
Consider: diving. And not the superficial kind where you’ve got a snorkeling apparatus and you can still see the light of the Sun a few feet below the surface of the water. Deep sea diving where you have to have headlamps because the light of the Sun doesn’t reach those depths. It’s dark and cold and pressurized. Your 5 senses and your proprioception are severely handicapped in this foreign environment. It’s a challenge to actually dive. And it’s no easy feat to plumb the depths of the murky waters of our subconscious, either. The senses and coping mechanisms we traditionally rely on to navigate our way through daily life and relationships are of no use in this unexplored space.
The full Moon in Scorpio is a challenge to get deep into the recesses of our hearts and minds. The Moon is in detriment in Scorpio, it is not comfortable here, and therefore we are in a state of emotional discomfort during this transit. But there is wisdom gained in enduring discomfort. Scorpio, with its venomous sting, is familiar with pain, gets close to it, does not try to repress it or hide from it. Scorpio knows that pain is the greatest teacher and leads the way toward ultimate transformation. Forged in the searing flames of fire, the Phoenix allows itself to be burned so that it can rise from the ashes (Scorpio’s other mythical creature symbol is the eagle, which takes its roots from the Phoenix). There are those of us who know how to glean teachings from wounds and sadness, like sap from a Maple tree, and those of us who do everything in our power to keep the pain at bay—never confronting it, always prioritizing a veneer of pleasantness and naive optimism. There is no transformation or growth without facing the harsh pruning we must go through throughout our lives.
The full Moon is going to bring all these discomforts to the forefront this week. If you’re not willing to dive for it, then it will bubble up and drown you anyway, so best be prepared to face your emotional tumult. The benefit of facing wounds and indulging the emotions is that you can reach deep emotional connection with other people who witness your vulnerability and love you through it. It’s rare to find people with the compassion and strength enough to love you through all of your reactions to being wounded and in pain. These are the ones to hold on to and cherish and this full Moon, while rough, helps us find those people.
The Moon’s opposition to Uranus at this time adds chaos and amplifies the emotional upheaval of the syzygy; and Mercury’s square to Pluto will incite some contentious conversations. Use introspection to your benefit this week and you’ll emerge stronger.
Lunar Cycle Transits
May 17: Sun conjunct Uranus
An erratic day that’s going to demand a lot of self-awareness, or else pay the price of chaos that will need lots of damage control and management in the subsequent days. In our personal lives we can expect to surprise ourselves and others with our unexpected actions. For those who are practiced in self-awareness and who have an integrated shadow, you’ll be flexible and prone to successful improvisation in the areas of life that are affected by this transit.
For those of us who are lacking in our inner work, it’s a different story. Impulsive or rash behavior will abound today and a couple days before and after. If you find yourself acting out or being told that you’re not acting like yourself, consider your behavior and the subconscious motivations that are driving it. This transit can be quite humbling as we might wake up a few days after and realize we’ve done things we regret. Be gracious toward yourself and also extend grace toward other people.
Ultimately, we are feeling an urgency to seek and find freedom from the constraints of our mundane routines. This is a helpful few days to escape our stultifying habits, but freedom is expensive, costing us the safety of what was boring yet “normal.” It’s important not to feel mournful around the loss of this safety net and keep a strong faith.
This transit is also accident prone, so take caution as you get on the road or mess about in general.
Mercury square Mars
This is one of the worst possible transits to be forming on the same day as the Sun-Uranus conjunction as it signifies major accidents, especially resulting in injuries like broken arms or legs. This does not have to be your fate, of course, because we act with awareness and respect to the heavenly bodies and their movements. Just take caution.
The real danger to this transit is getting into petty fights and verbal arguments with other people today. This square puts us all on edge and on the defensive, taking everything said to us the wrong way and immediately challenging anyone who crosses us at the wrong time and under the wrong circumstances.
The root cause of unnecessary conflicts and accidents is repressed rage. Don’t underestimate the power of simply naming anger or upset to yourself as a way of at least acknowledging or externalizing it. This is a fairly quick-passing transit, so it’s not like the rage will stay with you long enough to turn into resentment or bitterness. The opportunities with this transit lie in articulating what we believe in and standing up for those beliefs. The trick is not to take things personally, however, as this is getting the ego involved, which is never productive.
To make the most of this conjunction and square is to be unflinchingly honest in your internalized moral inquiry and get curious about the ways you can change your life.
May 20: Sun ingress into Gemini
A new solar season is here! From the gentle slowness of Taurus to manic, frenzied, excited Gemini, this ingress will feel like the true awakening of spring to prepare us for the heat of summer. Gemini season inspires us to lean into curiosity and a hunger for learning new things and gathering information, on anything!
The interesting thing about this Gemini season is the Sun and the lunations are going to be activating the lunar nodes, which brings fateful events to the forefront of our lives. Don’t overlook any conversations or connections that are occurring at this time as these will likely have a strong impact on the unfolding of your life for the next year or so.
May 22: Venus trine Mars
Whereas on the 17th we were all acting conflict-prone, today’s activity between Venus and Mars provides us with an excellent opportunity to smooth things over and make things right with people who we might have offended or been abrasive with. This trine is generally harmonious and assists us to be collaborative to get what we want. It provides an exceptional flow state to all of our relationships, which is a welcome vibe after such an intense affliction to our relationships during the beginning of the year. Relationships or fun little flings will be blessed by this trine and it’ll help us to relax with each other, feeling a levity that could allow us to feel safe enough to explore vulnerability a little later on.
May 23: Sun trine Pluto Rx
This is another transit that will help ease the funky residue from the Sun’s conjunction to Uranus and Mercury’s square to Mars. This trine inspires within us a deep motivation to transform our lives and commit to that transformation. You can think of it like this: if impulsive or rash behavior earlier in the month shook things up in an unpleasant way, now is the time to engage in thoughtful reflection on your actions and what was driving them. Were you seeking freedom from your routines because you subconsciously knew they weren’t getting you where you wanted in life?
Today is a great day for introspection + action. There is power behind our intentions that gives us the ability to change for the better.
May 24: Saturn ingress into Aries
This is a major shift, most especially for those with natal Saturn in Pisces and Aries. For those with Saturn in Pisces, this is the denouement to your Saturn return—you get a brief reprieve of the return until September 1st when Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces. For those with Saturn in Aries, this is the prologue to your Saturn return—a preview of what’s to come between 2026 and 2029.
Generally, however, this will impact us all on the mundane level such that we’ll spend the next approximately 3 years reorganizing our social structures around individualism and regeneration. The mystical threshold between the end of the zodiac (Pisces) and the beginning (Aries) is activated once again by Saturn’s ingress. The ingress is also, of course, the harbinger of the long-awaited Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries this summer. It’s a momentous occasion that will have its own separate piece coming later on from Cosmographia.
Mercury conjunct Uranus
This is like a manic episode plaguing the masses. Quick insights, faster pace of mind, creative ideas overflowing—all of these phenomena are attendant to this conjunction. It’s a quick transit, only lasting the day, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead some kind of agenda of activities to keep your mind busy. An idle mind during this conjunction could lead to unhelpful spiraling that cascades into rash action.
As with anything relating to Uranus, this is another accident-prone day, so take caution when driving or operating heavy machinery.
May 25: Mercury ingress into Gemini
Mercury moves into his domicile and brings us a few weeks of sharp mind and mental stimulation and inspiration. This is an excellent season for meticulously planning projects, especially writing projects. There will be a certain magical feeling in the air as we begin to feel the electrifying anticipation of the new season coming with the solstice. The gulf that separates our thoughts and words gets a little smaller as Mercury helps us to have clarity of mind.
