Did you know… each song on the Lunar News playlist is a horoscope for each zodiac sign in order
This is a great time of year to take on youthful airs and enjoy the puerile activities that we repress for the sake of being responsible. If we relate the zodiac signs to life stages, both Aries and Taurus seasons are akin to being an infant and a toddler—not really enjoyable times for us as individuals since we are spending our time getting acclimated to the harsh external world; our minds and bodies preoccupied with having to learn how to walk, talk, eat, and function as a person. But Gemini is High Childhood, a time of life when we are conscious enough to have independent thought and action, but nearly no responsibility for anything but our wild imaginations. Gemini is childlike and creative and mischievous and wild. To have a new Moon in Gemini is to have an opportunity to seed intentions from this place of childhood innocence; to have a channel open to the Inner Child that resides deep in our hearts and access that unbridled imagination.
Gemini is not just innocent youth, however. Gemini, ruled by Hermes, is the alchemical psychopomp who does not belong anywhere, but rather, belongs everywhere. Gemini’s two faces go boldly into every situation, exploring every perspective and possibility. The hermetical sign has a certain (a)moral disposition that helps them parse every side to every story, conflict, dilemma—the Gemini intellect is elastic enough to be able to give space for all perspectives. If, however, Gemini is too immature to handle this kind of responsibility, then they’ll likely take this mental fortitude to the extreme and try to “play both sides” as it were; or worse, they’ll take their ability to relate with anyone as an invitation and challenge to be unfaithful in relationships. The youthful air + sharp wit in Gemini makes for a dangerous combination if the energy is not developed enough. The challenge for Gemini is to maintain the sweet youthfulness while continuing to stimulate the mind and expand the intellect. This is how the sign cultivates its magical abilities.
What does this mean for the new Moon? It’s an opportunity to connect to a childlike freedom and creativity when setting our intentions for the next lunar cycle. But this Gemini new Moon also prompts us to project our intentions wisely, using our minds to their greatest extent, and to be mindful of all the information we’ve been collecting over the past little while.
This new Moon will be particularly significant for those with Gemini on the ascendant, the angles, and for those with personal planets in Gemini because this is the first new Moon in Gemini in three years without an overcoming square from Saturn, formerly in Pisces. There’s less of the restrictive, debilitatingly authoritative tone to this fresh start, however the absence of the Saturn square means that we’re flying without a co-pilot and we’re on our own in shaping the path unfolding into our future.
Pluto is in dialogue with this new Moon by way of making a trine to the syzygy from Aquarius. A few days ago we experienced an exact Sun-Pluto trine that was helpful in terms of giving us stamina and confidence to go within and identify our strengths and revitalize our will power. The Moon follows up with an emotional intensity that takes our connections with other people to a deeper level. This added richness and depth assists us in developing stronger bonds to the people dear to us. Furthermore, Mercury, the ruler of this new Moon, is co-present in Gemini and also forming a trine to Pluto—this is inspiring us and motivating us to explore these soulful connections on the mental, or intellectual plane. This is great for creative collaborations of all kinds!
We are still in the thick of the Earth shattering transformations of the outer planet ingresses, so don’t get too comfy with yourselves. Rather, be present to the movement of the waves and enjoy the surf.
Lunar Cycle Transits
May 29: Mercury Cazimi
Today Mercury makes a superior conjunction with the Sun; in the sky, Mercury has been appearing brighter and smaller as he moves further and further away from Earth; in a little less than a week, Mercury will appear as an evening star.
Mercury Cazimis provide a day of exceptional mental clarity and directness in our communications and messaging. We’ll have a lot to express and we will feel a strong urge and confidence to get the message across. The superior conjunction, however, is less impulsive than the inferior conjunction (which, during this cycle, occurred on March 24th) and we are acting now with greater wisdom and contemplation for long term success. Dane Rudhyar calls the superior conjunction the “Epimethean Direct” third face of Mercury whereby this is the culmination moment of our flashes of inspiration that came to us during the inferior conjunction. Readers might recall that two months ago I advised to not act impulsively, but rather let the information wash over you and let things happen as they are meant to happen. Ideally, you listened to me and over the last two months you’ve collected lessons to be turned into wisdom and metabolized into material to work with for the next two or so months before a new Mercury cycle begins.
Now is a good time to consider how you might go about expressing yourself and think about how self-expression and communication is the greatest means to our ends. We don’t get what we want without clearly stating it and asking for it… to ourselves and others.
June 5: Venus ingress into Taurus
What a beautiful and joyous relief this day will feel like as Venus breaks free from her entrapment in Aries, which has lasted far too long. Finally, Venus comes home to her sign of rulership and enjoys some well-deserved rest and relaxation in the luxurious and sensual house of Taurus. Our relationships and connections will likely feel sweeter, more peaceful, and more comfortable and we’ll all be less inclined to act selfishly in love. Connections that might appear boring and quiet on the surface will be strengthened by the slow and plodding deepening qualities of Taurus. This is an excellent month to understand the best ways to cultivate love, rather than rely on lightning strike passions to build relationships.
June 8: Mercury conjunct Jupiter
Just as Mercury is about out the door in Gemini, he makes a beautiful conjunction to Jupiter conferring on us diplomacy and confidence and a bit of wealth and luck. This is an excellent day for closing deals and making lucrative business transactions. More than that, however, we are feeling like our mental capacities are particularly expansive making today a good one to learn new things, or figure out next steps on a project, or even seeding the idea for something new to work on. This is a great day to make a story board or draw up a road map for a new project. Broad, big picture views are supported today, but on the flip side, for anything detail-oriented, make sure to double and even triple check your work before going full send. Take care not to be too cocky or think of yourself as fallible. The risk to this perfect day is speaking with too much of an air of confidence and putting your foot in your mouth and ruining everything.
Mercury ingress into Cancer
Tones get a little more emotive and sensitive at this time and we’ll feel called to navigate matters of the heart with words. But words—ruled by logic and reasoning—don’t come easy when it comes to the irrationality of our feelings. Everyone will be taking more things to heart at this time, so take caution with your words. My advice here for the next three weeks is to immerse yourself in poetry and resist any and all urges to get passive aggressive.
June 9: Jupiter ingresses into Cancer
Month after month after month the major planetary ingresses just keep coming! Jupiter, planet of growth, abundance, luck, the Great Benefic, gets a homecoming of sorts when he moves into Cancer, the sign of his exaltation according to the Hellenistic tradition. Jupiter tends to pull a good amount of focus wherever he is transiting and over the next year we’ll be under some major Cancerian influences. Themes of nurturing and caretaking and domesticity will take a leading role in our lives for the next year. Relationships and connections will focus themselves on trust and care and the notion of conditional vs. unconditional love. You cannot build any kind of home or community on transactional or conditional expectations of love. This will be a sweet Jupiter transit, but not without it’s treachery (thank you square from Saturn).
