Lunar News: New Moon in Pisces
Astrological vibe check: the biggest fish in the river gets that way by never getting caught

If there were ever a time to pay attention to your dreams and decipher them for cryptic messages, answers, and clues, this weekend is it. The New Moon in Pisces offers us a moment of clarity, preparing us for eclipse season coming up this spring.
Before the Sun and Moon meet, the Moon wades into the deep, dark waters of Pisces on an excursion into the Subconcious and meets Saturn. Saturn is taciturn, gloomy, filled with a bit of dread, and could use some emotional softening from the nurturing Moon. It’s going to make us feel as though our wounds are exposed for maximum pain, but also maximum healing. Saturn has been in Pisces for one full year now, and while we’ve still got two more years of this transit, now is a good time to reflect upon the ways we’ve been asked to mature. Are there any trials we’ve endured, tasks we’ve been given, obstacles or setbacks encountered related to subconscious awakenings? What realizations or revelations have come to us over the last year that cause us to take an unflinching moral inventory? Saturn demands the best of us and accepts nothing less, and if we do not heed the lessons he attempts to teach us, he will force us to level up. Now, with the Moon’s conjunction to Saturn, these reflections on the past year can turn a bit emotional. We might feel grouchy or agitated before we finally break down into our moment of ultimate catharsis. It’s important to surrender to it all.
Then, the Sun and Moon’s syzygy occurs. What’s most interesting about this lunation is that, for those of us living in the western United States, this New Moon happens at the moment the clocks jump forward when daylight savings time starts. Metaphysically speaking, this is a “lost” New Moon since it’s occurring when we lose an hour. It’s a very Piscean vibe as Pisces is an elusive, slippery fish that refuses to be caught by anyone. “The biggest fish in the river gets that way by never being caught,” says Edward in Tim Burton’s Big Fish. This adage reminds us that in order to be unflappable we cannot be halting in our actions. Life is meant to be seized, and the Pisces New Moon looks to be emotional, sensual, and sentimental, it is truly fierce in its quiet power.
Our communications get an extra dose of confidence and lucidity this weekend, too, as Mercury ingresses into Aries. For the last three weeks it may have felt like our words didn’t match up with our hearts, or that wires were getting crossed, misunderstandings were abundant. It was a messy time period for communicating and speaking, but we can expect resolutions to arrive swiftly and pointedly now.
With the exception of the conjunction to Saturn, this whole weekend will be giving us a pep in our step. The square to Uranus from Venus and Mars over the last couple weeks spurred on major surprises, breakthroughs, and probably unexpected or unwanted news. We might be feeling somewhat shell shocked from a whacky few days, and this New Moon brings levity to it all and breaks the ice. We can finally exhale. This lunation is also ruled by Jupiter, the jovial spirit of Spirits, imbibing, and partying. This energy invites us to rejoice in all the miraculous facets of our life. Jupiter himself is preparing for a big conjunction to Uranus in a few weeks and between that and eclipse season, we really are experiencing a small pocket of time when everything feels like it’s going to be alright.
Moderately hard moments in our lives tend to be all consuming, giving us a fatalistic outlook and preventing us from seeing beyond the difficulties. We must remind ourselves that the sky is not falling and there is always a sunny, quiet meadow around the corner waiting for us to relax into it. This New Moon is that meadow. It is a bright spot in between some difficult astrology, so take advantage of the sweetness and remember your resilience.
