New Moon at 20° Scorpio, November 13th at 2:26 AM MDT.
It’s a dark and moody night for the Sun and Moon to come together. The Moon is in a bad way in Scorpio, far from home and lost trying to feel around in the dark. It gives the feeling of waking up in an unfamiliar place with your phone battery dead and not knowing how you’re going to get home. The pressure of Scorpio bears down a heavy weight putting us in an emotional mood, but sitting next to Mars and opposing Uranus in Taurus, the reflective tone might quickly turn volatile.
This New Moon in Scorpio is facilitating a renewal in all the obscured parts of our lives. The unsettling feelings that we tend to repress will bubble up and it is advised we do not shy away from acknowledging them. Scorpio is about investigation and journeying to the end of all things, going to the edge without necessarily knowing if you’ll make it back. The Moon here is reaching into the knots of our subconscious and it is our task to untangle what we haven’t dealt with in a while. Pay close attention to dreams at this time as there may be important messages or revelations coming through them.
The ruler of this lunation is Mars, and since he is currently in his rulership of Scorpio and conjunct the New Moon, the God of War is acting as a sort of marriage counselor for the Moon and Sun. The catch is that Mars is encouraging hostility and aggression in both luminaries. As we embark on an emotionally stirring Dark Night of the Soul, we will likely feel an impulse to fight and dig our heels into the ground if anyone dares to confront us.
Sitting across the sky from all of this intense energy is Uranus at 21° Taurus. This opposition will destabilize everything. On a global scale, we could potentially see a bubble of increased violence and aggravation; perhaps even seeing major weather events like volcanic eruptions or tsunamis from oceanic earthquakes. In our lives personally, Uranus will make us feel uncertain in our emotional spelunking. As you navigate the depths of your subconscious, be aware of your surroundings, wear a headlamp, and don’t get caught in spaces that are too small for you to emerge from.
Due to an unusual configuration between Mercury in Sagittarius, Venus in Libra, and Jupiter in Taurus, we will be feeling a strong desire to play the peacemaker in any sticky situations/confrontations that arise. That impulse to mediate is in good faith, but it won’t help the hostility or tension of the moment; instead of trying to find balance and harmony, just stop talking. Take time to brood.
Amidst the tension of this syzygy, repeat the mantra that it will all pass. Emotional stirrings, feelings of anger, frustrating power dynamics—these will all have their time, they will crest, but then they’ll dissipate a mere two days later when the Mars Cazimi hits. The warrior will be engulfed in the flames of the Sun and we’ll feel a major catharsis.
