Solar Eclipse at 21° Libra, October 14th, 11:55 AM MST.
The light of the Sun is blotted out this weekend as the Moon sidles up and casts her shadow upon him. Any and all eclipses carry strong signals that influence the arc of global history, but this one will be heavier than others.
This eclipse is occurring on the Aries-Libra axis, with the ascending lunar node at 25° Aries and the descending node at 25° Libra. These signs bisect the zodiac wheel and thus the major phases of life. Aries, the beginning of the zodiac, embodies the archetype of the headstrong warrior bursting forth with aggression and vigor to pursue new challenges. Then there’s Libra, at the halfway mark on the zodiac, who embodies balance, diplomacy, harmony, and beauty. What Aries wants to rip apart, Libra wants to rebuild into something more just and resilient. Aries is ruled by Mars, planet of war, while Libra is ruled by Venus, planet of love. The dichotomy is ludicrously potent with symbolism and we’d do well to take these archetypes into careful consideration with this ominous Solar Eclipse in Libra.
Astrology dealing with the lunar nodes—eclipses—is a sweeping gesture of fate. When the people of ancient Mesopotamia witnessed the light of the two great luminaries being extinguished by one another it was understood as the most powerful and most ominous message broadcast from the celestial bodies. The corresponding events and feelings on Earth were usually to the tune of state conflict, with the heads of state especially being threatened. In the Mundane these days, eclipses have widespread effect on global powers and power dynamics.
October 14’s Solar Eclipse in Libra is in a square to Pluto, the planet of destruction and transformation. This tense aspect perfected 7 days earlier on October 7, with its potency felt around the world, but with the New Moon at play, there may be aftershocks.
This New Moon is ruled by Venus who has made her transition from Leo–where she spent the whole summer going through an ego death—into Virgo, a sign she does not like being in. Venus traveling through Virgo feels like she’s being onboarded for a job she was never trained for. She’s irritable and restrained in her ability to do her work of peacemaking, and she’s also in charge of this New Moon. Not to mention Venus is still separating from her opposition to Saturn in Pisces. There are lingering feelings of a stalemate with no hope for resolution in our conflicts.
Mars has now made his ingress into Scorpio, another sign that he rules in addition to Aries, and he’s feeling supercharged in his aggression. Mars left Libra on October 6 with a rough impact to the South Node, activating this eclipse point. Expect more aftershocks from last week to seep into this Solar Eclipse.
Destiny steps in this weekend to push us beyond the point of no return.
